Reading Apprenticeship Essentials II: Elevate Student Comprehension and Knowledge

For middle school and high school educators

Take your Reading Apprenticeship practice to the next level. Build on your foundational knowledge with specific routines that boost students’ ability to understand disciplinary texts, language, and concepts—whether teaching in-person or online. You’ll dive deeper into the Reading Apprenticeship framework’s four dimensions and metacognitive conversational approach.

Who Should Attend 

  • Middle school and high school educators (any subject), plus administrators, coaches, and instructional support staff. 
  • Prerequisite: Completion of a Level 1 Reading Apprenticeship course. 

Course Formats 

In-Person Track 

  • 2 full days (6 hours each) 
  • Immersive learning with colleagues 
  • Extended inquiry, collaboration, and reflection 
  • Flexible scheduling for school/district groups 
  • Small team/individual registration 1–2 times per year 

Online Track 

  • Six 2-hour Zoom sessions (12 hours total) 
  • Multi-modal online learning 
  • Strong digital community-building 
  • Extensive online teaching support and modeling

Federal funding: Reading Apprenticeship qualifies as “strong” evidence-based professional learning under ESSA. Use Title I, Title II, or Title III funds. 

Refunds: Full refund up to 2 weeks before start, and 50 percent refund within 2 weeks of start. If WestEd needs to cancel or reschedule, we’ll notify you promptly.
