From “sitting there with a book” to engaged learning: impact of a comprehensive approach to teaching

Students, teachers, and administrators from Washington County Public Schools in Maryland share the benefits of implementing the Reading Apprenticeship approach district-wide. Students practiced Reading Apprenticeship routines in not only ELA classes, but also science, math, and social studies, building community both in and out of the classroom. After just one year, 87% of students advanced to a higher reading level – some of them as many as three grade levels.
